Scope of Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy can be defined as a treatment method that focuses on the science of movement and helps people to restore, maintain and maximize their physical strength, function, motion and overall well-being by addressing the underlying physical issues.Physiotherapy is a registered profession.Physiotherapists work in concert with other healthcare professionals, and physicians.
Physiotherapists offer treatments relating to the following conditions:
Cancer, palliative care and lymphedema: treating, managing or preventing fatigue, pain, muscle and joint stiffness, and deconditioning.
Incontinence: managing and preventing incontinence and pelvic floor dysfunction.
Women’s health concerns: addressing health issues surrounding pregnancy, birth, post-partum care, breastfeeding, menopause, bedwetting, prolapsed, loss of bladder or bowel control.
Musculoskeletal: preventing and treating clients with musculoskeletal conditions such as neck and back pain. Helping patients prevent or manage acute or chronic orthopedic conditions such as arthritis and amputations.
Neurological: promoting movement and quality of life in patients who have had severe brain or spinal cord damage from trauma, or who suffer from neurological diseases such as stroke, Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis.
Cardiorespiratory: providing support, prevention and rehabilitation for people suffering from diseases and injuries that affect the heart and lungs, such as asthma.
Gynaecology: provides antenatal and postnatal care during and after pregnancy and helps to achieve good posture and fitness . Physiotherapy in gynaecology revolves around women’s health.
Sports: helps in rehabilitation of athletes and improve overall performance.
Pain: managing or preventing pain and its impact on function in patients.
It is a non-surgical treatment process aimed to reduce pain, improving movement & restoring functionality in order to improve the patient’s health.

Our lives are being very busy and we have been habitual of the mechanization. Because of not using the muscles capacity in our daily life, we are used to have backache, sciatica, lumbago and many disabilities these days. The physiotherapist is one who helps in curing such disorders. A physio can be a health counsellor, doctor, physical trainer and sports coach.After the completion of the course one may go for the higher study as M.PT. or Ph.D. To work with the hospitals, health organizations or individual practice, it is necessary to have the bachelor degree. One can work with the ministry of sports, stadium, hospitals, health societies# and can also do freelance practice. There is a good opportunity to go abroad after the completion of this course due to the high demand of physiotherapists in countries like US, UK and others.One can also work in rehabilitation centers, industrial health units, schools, in armed forces and in universities as well.
