Information Technology (IT) is a growing field in India, and is looked upon as one of the industries that can generate abundant job opportunities. A science student interested in joining the IT industry is usually confused about the many courses on offer at the undergraduate level and might end up joining a course which might not be as beneficial as some other course.


Pursuable after (10+2) standard with science background, these undergraduate courses take three years in general. BSc IT signifies the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology. B.Sc. Computer Science is a 3 year undergraduate program which deals with subjects and topics related to computer application and services.       1. Jobs

      After completing B.Sc. IT, you can seek jobs through your college by campus recruitment drives or by seeking a job all by yourself. As a graduate in the field of IT which happens to be of a great spectrum, you can get a job in IT organisations as a System Analyst, Database Administrator, Web Programmer, Application Programmer, Web Designer, etc. or even in a BPO. The salaries depend on the academic performances during graduation as well as the aptitude of the student. The salary packages may vary between 2.5 to 6 lakh per annum.

      2. Higher Studies: - Post Graduation (M.Sc.-IT/ MCA/MBA)

      In Post graduation, a B.Sc. IT graduate can do a M.Sc. in the same field or a MCA. In view of job prospects M.Sc. is preferred by students who want to go into the research or the teaching field. MCA is for students who want to become programmers and all those high paying jobs. The MCA is a 3 year course while the MSc is a 2 year course.

One can do MBA or MBA(IT) even after Post graduate degree but doing it right after your Bachelor’s will give you a great edge and catapult you to a high paying job of a manager much faster. To do MBA in India the student has to appear for the exams like CAT, MH-CET, CMAT, XAT, SNAP, NMAT, etc.

3. Other Certification Courses after B. Sc. IT :-

A variety of certification courses are available for aspirants who have finished their bachelor’s degree in IT. A few of them comprise of:

  • Hardware Network & Security Courses
  • Software Programming & Development Courses
  • Web Designing & Development Courses

4. Appearing for Public Sector Exams like U.P.S.C., M.P.S.C., SBI-PO, etc. :-

The student who want to become an IAS, IPS, etc. or want to work in Government Organizations or Banks can appear for various Public Sector Exams conducted by respective departments of Central or State Governments.
