According to a report of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, India, there are 993 universities, 39931 Colleges and 10725 Stand Alone Institutions listed on their portal, which contribute to education today. The current pandemic is not only seen affecting the health of the citizens of the country but is also seen hampering various industries and jiggling them to their roots. COVID-19 pandemic has brought many difficulties for the world and it will affect the Higher Education as well. Due to strict lockdowns and social distancing across the globe, it is mandatory for us to find out creative and innovative ways to fulfill our duties and assignments. The Indian Government has taken very first step to close the educational institutions for the safety of students, teachers and their family members. The economy of every country is being affected intensely by the global virus pandemic.
The national lockdown and the pandemic crisis has seriously affected the education of the students as well, with their universities being shut and their syllabus grounded, until the education industry decided to initiate a revolution instead. To fight with this problem and to grow in the time of crisis, universities decided to digitalize this sector. Allowing educational institutions to adopt online learning and infuse a virtual study culture, the pandemic is already steering the sector forward with technological innovation and advancements.
Today Universities and Colleges are thinking to start online classes and many of them have even started it. Education cannot be ceased by hurdles like this pandemic has created. Using information and communication technology, the universities are engaging the students to study. They are offering different courses for students and making the youth ready for a better tomorrow. Some of the universities are also offering courses related to the next industrial revolution, which will rewire the thought process of our youth and inspire them to lead the change.
For instance, science students can opt for interactive sessions to discuss specific case studies, commerce students can explore business environment and strategic planning along with their mentors, playing videos and conducting online moot sessions for law aspirants and much more. It has not only enabled us to be more internet savvy but has also paved the way to prepare us for any such situations in future. Apart from interactive and virtual learning, the universities are teaching much more than just syllabus. They are sensitizing their faculties to tackle this situation wisely.
Together with education the students should also be supported and guided with their anxiety, fear and emotions in this time of crisis. Improving their emotional intelligence, coupled with the guidelines laid by the University Grant Commission will transform the education system for good.
Every difficulty brings in new inventions and the education industry has been stepping up to use some. The Covid-19 pandemic has been working as a catalyst for education systems to stand and grow with new options and technologies which haven’t been used before. With every change, the theories have always pointed out towards the survival of the fittest. Surviving this crisis with a different approach and digitizing the education sector will get us through the storm and wash away the blues of the pandemic.
